Why I Ride

Soon after I started playing lacrosse for the Cy Fair Iron Maidens (#represent), I was told about a girl named Julia. She also used to play and was in the eighth grade, working on getting her Silver Award for Girl Scouts, when she passed away from Mediastinal Lymphoma, which is a rare and aggressive form of cancer.

After Julia passed away, her teammates continued the journey to get her the Silver Award by starting the Burning Flower Lacrosse Tournament and would ask each team to donate stuffed animals in Julia's honor. HPD's Homicide Department would then be able to give kids the stuffed animals so they could have something to hold during their tough time.

Julia's dad, Scott, helped to coach us and told Julia's story each year before Burning Flower and hearing her story and having her legacy live on through all of us is something that I found really inspiring and is one of the reasons why I ride.
