About: Hello! Thanks for the time you’ve taken to learn about Texas 4000 and read my story! My name is Delaney Holton. I am a fourth-year student majoring in Asian Studies. I grew up in Plano, TX but have family all over the country, from the Mississippi Delta to small-town Iowa.

Outside of T4K, I can be found working towards my thesis on contemporary Chinese art in the Asian Studies Department, or improving on literally any piano I can find.

At the core of all I do is the belief that our lives are all connected in some way. How can we help one another to shoulder the burdens each of us carry? How can we stand together courageously in the face of hardship? Since childhood, these are the questions I’ve grappled with. It is my hope that this journey will be a step towards finding the answers.

Why I Ride

Cancer has always been present in my life. My grandmother battled breast cancer. My grandfather passed from lung cancer before I was born. A childhood friend lost her father to cancer when we were in elementary school, and now her mother is fighting lung cancer.

I don’t remember when it was that I began to understand cancer as a disease. All I remember is being very young and noticing the gaps where our loved ones were supposed to be, and realizing life has an expiration date.

Cancer takes from all of us - energy, relationships, time, life - and we don’t get a choice in who is touched by it. But Texas4000 is a reminder that I have a choice in trying to fight back. I have been blessed with good health and I want to use this privilege in solidarity with those who have lost life or loved ones to this disease. For those who had no choice in fighting cancer, I make this choice to ride.
