About: Hey there! My name's Rachel, and I'm a sophomore Computer Science major here at UT. I'm originally from Katy, Texas(the 'burbs outside of Houston), where my amazing parents and little sister still live. I'm an avid reader and I enjoy listening to music, scrolling through random Wikipedia pages, and enjoying the outdoors.

Why I Ride

My little sister was six years old when she was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia, and I still remember how frail she looked that first time I saw her in the hospital bed. Her treatment took two years, which took a toll on our family, especially her. And that’s why I ride.
There are too many children just like my sister in the world—alone, unable to comprehend what’s happening to them and why their lives have become so painful. There are too many families that have been forced to watch a child or a parent wither under the effects of both cancer and chemo. I want to raise money to help these families fight that fight, as painful as it is. I want to help ensure that all children affected by cancer get the treatment that they need, and riding in Texas 4000 is one way that I can make that impact. For my friends, teachers, and family members who have fought or watched someone fight cancer, or my sister, for that girl who fought that fight and is back on her feet, stronger than ever, and for the kids who are going through or went through what she went through—they are the reasons why I want to ride.
Lastly, I want to ride for you and your loved ones. Cancer is an ugly, terrible disease, and I want to ride in memory of all those who passed fighting cancer and in celebration of everyone battling cancer right now. Please, if you have anyone who you'd like me to ride for, email me or send me a message! I would love to hear your stories and ride for your loved ones. :)
