About: My name is Tess Ortega and I was born and raised in Houston, Texas. I’m 20 years old and currently a third year biology major at UT. Although I was raised in Houston, I have completely fallen in love with the city of Austin. I love everything about it; the music, the energy of downtown, the endless list of things to do. I love the large variety of student organizations at UT because there is something for everyone. The two organizations that have kept me sane throughout college are definitely Longhorn Band and Phi Beta Chi. The band is kind of like a big family and honestly performing in front of 100,000 people in DKR on game day is one of the most amazing feelings. Other than Longhorn Band I also enjoy being a part of Texas Phi Beta Chi, a professional women’s organization, and even though I just joined this past spring I’ve already fallen in love with the organization and its members.

Music is essential to my existence and I constantly have a song in my head. If I could dance everywhere instead of walking I would. I also love reading, riding my bike, and going on adventures. I have a little sister named Danielle, who along with my mom, is one of my best friends and I definitely miss her while I’m away at school. I love to learn, but I hate doing homework. Food and my bed are my true loves.
