About:
I was born in Houston in 1989 and raised in Texas , except for the three years I resided in Wisconsin. I am currently a senior at the University of Texas and majoring in Human Development. The next step after graduation is medical school. Ever since I was little my dream was to be a doctor. I am really interested in primary care, especially pediatrics. Children enjoy the simpler things in life that an adult can take advantage of and I want to help protect them by keeping them healthy.
In my free time I love to read books. Also love to spend time with my parents and my older brother. The time we spend together is usually camping for the weekend at one of the state parks. If I could use five words to describe myself they would be: enthusiastic, motivated, stubborn, hard working, and happy. I love to laugh, I think everything is funny, and one of the most distinctive characteristics about me is my laugh. It’s loud, but I don’t mind because I get it from my dad, and he is someone who I look up to.
Why I Ride
If you think you are beaten, you are;
If you think you dare not, you don't;
If you like to win, but think you can't,
It is almost certain you won't.
If you think you'll lose, you've lost,
For out of the world we find
Success begins with a person's will;
It's all in the state of mind.
If you think you are outclassed, you are;
You've got to think high to rise.
You've got to be sure of yourself before
You can even win a prize.
Life's battles don't always go
To the stronger or faster man,
But sooner or later, the person who wins
Is the person who thinks, "I Can!"

Cancer is a devastating disease that knows no boundaries. Cancer can take a life without even thinking twice. When I think of the fight against cancer it reminds me of football. Many things go into winning a game. Cancer is the defense keeping the home team from winning. The players on O line are the family and friends because they support and defend the quarterback, the men and women fighting for their lives. The center represents the hard working doctors and researchers because they are the start of the fight. We are the running backs and the receivers hoping to help the team to victory. Just as the running back and receiver carry the ball for a touchdown, we as the public need to carry the knowledge about prevention and hope to take a step towards winning. It will have to be a team effort in order for the home team to be victorious. A lot of variables go into cancer, some that individuals can affect and some that they cannot. The game might get rained out which the players can’t control but blocking well, running hard and good hands can make a big difference. Texas 4,000 serves to help teach others about what CAN be done to ward off cancer. Texas 4,000 is an organization that stands for something amazing that aids in the fight against cancer.
I ride for my mom, she is the prime example of strength. Every time I hear the song “Tough” by Craig Morgan it brings me to tears because it reminds me of my mom. About 10 years ago she signed up to be a bone marrow donor and she learned that she had the beginnings of bone marrow cancer called MGUS. About six years ago the MGUS progressed in smouldering myeloma. My mom endured three rounds of chemotherapy and is now in remission. Not only does she have cancer but she also has Wegener's Granulomatosis which recently has become active and Lupus which is active. Every time I think of giving up, I think of her and how strong she has been even though life has thrown her some curve balls.
I ride for my mom, my nana, my papa and my grandmother whom I was never able to meet.
