About:
I was born 22 years ago in Flint, Michigan where I lived until I was 11 and then I got to Texas as fast as I could. I moved to El Paso at that time where I lived for about five years and then my life took another crazy direction when my dad informed me that we were moving to Shanghai, China. I moved to China at the age of 16 and finished high school at an international school. Living overseas opened my eyes to so much and helped me grow and mature more than ever. After graduating, my heart still brought me back to Texas for college. I am currently a junior in Psychology with a minor in Business Foundations. After finishing my bachelor degree, I plan on furthering my education with an MBA. I have fallen in love with UT, the students, the city, and the atmosphere. I love exploring the city, making new friends, and just having a good time in life. I have always been outgoing and looking for adventure. I am constantly finding ways to be active and involved. Life is too short–I plan on making the most of it.
Throughout all of my life adventures, my family has always been there for me. I have an older sister, a twin, and a little brother and they all mean the world to me. All of my siblings and my parents keep my life interesting and worth every minute. I would be lost without them. With all of the moving and changes in my life, I have come to realize how important family really is. I learned that you will move, your friends will change, your positions in life will change but your family will always be there no matter what. I want to take that love and appreciation I have been brought up with and put it to use by being there for others through sharing experiences and listening to their life stories.
Why I Ride
I ride for my Grandma Joann. My grandma was the spunkiest, most outgoing and loving woman I have ever met. She always knew how to put a big smile on my face. She never took life too seriously and knew how to have a good time–I admired her for this. On top of it all she was a fighter. Plus she made the best goulash in the world!
Years ago when I was a small kid, my grandma was diagnosed with breast cancer. She fought through that, but as a consequence of the radiation treatment she suffered serious burns. The treatment saved her from breast cancer, but eventually led to her diagnosis of angiosarcoma. She fought harder than anyone I have ever seen fight for anything. Eventually the cancer took over and she passed away in October 2007.
I ride in memory of my Grandma Joann. I ride to show that her fight, and everyone else who has or is fighting, was not in vein. I ride in support of finding better treatments so individuals will not have to face negative effects like my grandma did.
I also ride for my Aunt Lorrie who has been fighting breast cancer. I have always looked up to her and I am proud of how strong she has been. I know she would not have been able to battle this alone, so I ride for her and her amazing family who have been such great support. It is important that people realize how serious cancer is and how common it is becoming. I ride to support all those who have been directly or indirectly affected by cancer. Although I am only one person, I am one person who is ready to take a stand in the fight.
