About:

My name is Adam Petri and I am from Katy, Texas, a suburb of Houston. I have lived there my entire life, and I am a huge Astros and Rockets fan. I am the youngest of three boys, and the most vivid memory of my youth is playing baseball. I was a pitcher and a 2nd baseman until I stopped playing in high school, but I’m always up for a pickup game! I am currently a Plan II/ Mechanical Engineering double major, and am looking forward to a great 09/10 year!

Why I Ride

Cancer is a terrible killer and has touched millions of lives, including my own. When affected by something as devastating as cancer, it’s easy to just throw in the towel and give in to despair, but it’s important to have hope and inspiration through the dark times. The Texas 4000 is inspiring. It’s helped me to stop focusing on the impossibility of my grandmother’s condition and realize that there is something that I can do to help. By reaching out to the cancer-stricken community, I can help to ease the pain of those going through what I am going through. And by contributing to research, maybe I can have a hand in ensuring that no other people have to go through the pain I am going through.

They say a picture is worth a thousand words; pretty cliché right? Well for the opportunity to take my picture in front of the “Welcome to Alaska” sign, and for the chance to touch hundreds of lives, I could trade for the Preamble to the Constitution, the Gettysburg Address, the Lord’s Prayer, and I bet I could sneak in the Boy Scout Oath while I’m at it. But to take that picture, and to ride with the Texas 4000 in 2011, well, I wouldn’t trade that for the world.
