About:
I’m a junior currently majoring in Human Biology and ultimately aspiring to attend medical school. I was born in Taegu, South Korea but moved to Baton Rouge, Louisiana at a very young age. Until my teen years, I grew up in Baton Rouge with LSU football, Mardi Gras, and loads and loads of Crawfish. I went to high school in Carrollton, TX where my days and nights were dedicated to marching band and more marching band. My mother, father and younger sister still reside in Carrollton today and are always supportive of my goals and efforts.
I am a complete music junkie. I currently play the piano, guitar, drums, clarinet and I’m trying to get the harmonica down on my belt as well. Classical music is probably my main expertise and one of the best random happenings of the week is when Rachmaninov Piano Concerto No.2 plays on Pandora. It never gets old. I also love UT football, movies, singing in the shower, and Lipton green tea.
Why I Ride
To be honest I have lived a life where none of my family members nor friends have had cancer. In times like these it is quite a rare feat I will admit, and needless to say I have always been thankful that the people around me live strong and healthy lives that others could only dream of.
So many others, however, are not as fortunate as I am.
Millions suffer today as they struggle to hold on to their will to live. Each day to them, in my opinion, is a success story that many fail to notice. Through the brutal treatments and life ripping chemo sessions, they fight through, hoping one day for a cure. Even as they watch their loved one being stripped of his or her mental and physical well being, the friends and families stick together and offer support, many times masking their own emotional pain to offer just one more smile for the road.
The word cancer is often associated with despair, agony, and death. I want to let the world know that behind that word lie courage, hope, and life. Although I can’t share the pains that accompany them every night I can be a hand to hold on to, a glimpse of hope that helps them carry on, and an inspiration that allows them to conquer their fears. The fight against cancer is long and hard but the struggle can be divided amongst many. I want to let them know that they are not alone and that people including myself will do whatever it takes to find the cure.
