About:
I’m a nut. Sometimes weird, sometimes quirky, always fun. Looking at my family, I guess I can see where some of it comes from, or at least how it’s supported. I have three best friends *ahem* sisters (18,22,24) who are unique in beautiful ways, and I really don’t know how my parents managed us as kids (or even now!). My family is definitely my foundation. Since I was in diapers, my parents have taken us camping every summer for three weeks, and then some. These early trips really brought our family together, and I would not be the person I am today if it wasn’t for those incredible times. With that said, I LOVE NATURE. Hiking, biking, kayaking, camping, water sports, grizzly bear wrestling…ok ok no bears, but anything that gets me outside is good in my book! That’s why I love living in Austin and attending the University of Texas. The sense of freedom and activity that fills the air here is incredible. Some other favorites: coffee (slight obsession), breakfast burritos, fruit, dancing around in my room (I need a bigger room), Central Market, and country music. This past year has been a growing experience, and I’ve decided that, as corny as it sounds (I’m a pretty corny person), I want to make a difference and do something incredible that helps, inspires, and influences others. Now I have the chance with Texas 4000 :)
Why I Ride
Soldiers want to know what and why they’re fighting in order to join the battle. To build an army, first you must inform and educate those whom you are recruiting. Give them a REASON to fight. That’s what is missing in the fight against cancer. Many people know the problem exists, but unless they are directly affected by its scope of victims, they go about their life as usual with no idea and no reason to join the cause. Texas 4000 is a recruitment organization. The riders are there to talk to people, tell them the stories of cancer survivors/victims, and give others the motivation to join in the fight against cancer. Unless you reach out to people to help, they will more than likely not even know that the help is needed. If more and more are educated and inspired, then our army will grow exponentially, and a victory over cancer will be more than just a dream.
