About:
Hello! I'm a pre-medical senior from Round Rock, Texas, studying Human Biology, Sociology, and Asian American Studies.
But beyond school, I'm passionate about social justice, multiculturalism, diversity, and raising awareness of cancer. I volunteer part-time in the operating room of St. David's Medical Center and work as an MCAT instructor for Kaplan Test Preparation. I also look forward to eventually attending medical school and becoming a doctor, although I don't know what kind... yet.
I love my community, Diet Dr. Pepper, baking cookies, developing awareness, and the continual betterment of the self. Beware: I self-identify as a complete science lover and nerd, and I spell out words using abbreviations of the essential amino acids, which becomes problematic because there are only 20 of them... ☺
I just turned 18 in October, but don't underestimate me and my squeaky voice.
More to come...
Why I Ride
In 1994, my mom was diagnosed with a serious form of breast cancer and given three months to live. She sought a second opinion, and was rushed into surgery and eight courses of chemotherapy. Fortunately, over a decade later, she is alive and well---and cancer free.
To be honest, I don't remember much of this time period: I was around 6 or 7, but I seem to have completely blocked it out of my mind. Even so, I can definitely feel the impact of this disease on my family and my mom. My mom is such an inspiration to me--her strength, motivation, and character keep me going as I follow my dreams.
