About: Hey y’all! My name is Maggie Jackson and I grew up on the edge of the Piney Woods in Kingwood, Texas. I spent my days there climbing trees and getting into shenanigans with friends who became more like family. I have two remarkable parents that have always given me unwavering love and support. They have encouraged me to think big and pursue whatever it is I dream. On top of having awesome parents, I have four older siblings, two brothers-in-law, a sister-in-law, four nieces, a nephew, and an extended family too big to count. Coming from such a large family has taught me to really embrace and love the individuality of others. My friends and family are my heart and soul and I wouldn’t be who I am today without each of them. They have shown me that living for others leaves the world a little brighter and they continue to inspire me every day to be a better person.

I am currently a fourth year Biochemistry major and loving my time spent here in Austin. When I’m not too busy studying you can find me out running through trails, trying my hand at painting, or camped under a tree with a good book. I believe that there is something special hidden away in all the simple things of life. All is good when I slow down to take in the world around me and embrace each new day with wonder and appreciation.

Why I Ride

I am incredibly blessed by the people who are in my life. They have shaped me and have taught me about what it means to give and to love. One person in my life who really embodied these selfless qualities was Mrs. Leanne McPherson. She was a neighbor, my close friend’s mom, and a part of my family. In 2012, Mrs. Leanne lost her battle to cancer. It was felt throughout our quiet community and well beyond; she was not only a friend to many, but also a model of love and charity. The loss of Mrs. Leanne brought home to me how devastating cancer can be.

I see this organization as a chance to play a role in something bigger than myself. Through Texas 4000, my teammates and I have an opportunity to positively affect the lives of those we encounter and to actively join in the fight against cancer. I ride with the hope that cancer research continues to progress and the way we treat this disease continues to improve. I ride for all of those who have been affected by cancer. And I ride for all of my loved ones, without them this would be impossible.
