About:

Hi there! My name’s Kim. Born and bred in Austin, I'm the middle child of two brothers. I’m a second year Biochemistry and Radio-Television-Film major at the University of Texas at Austin. A little about me: I like doing improv, watching movies, especially crime films, and binge-watching television sitcoms. I enjoy reading whenever I have the chance. Being outdoors and trying different ways to be active is refreshing. I enjoy the diversity, the opportunities, and everything else in between in Austin.

Why I Ride

Cancer isn’t fair, cancer doesn’t discriminate, and cancer will somehow affect all of us. Texas 4000 happened because tragedy happens but more than that, hope needs to happen.

I ride for my grandma Kim Nguyen, who was diagnosed in 2004. The aggressive form of breast cancer was caught in the early stages and after two months of gruelling chemotherapy and the strong support of her husband Anthony Nguyen, she has been cancer free for 8 years and counting. Her hair grew back curly! Two years after my grandma conquered breast cancer, my granddad Anthony was diagnosed with lung cancer. He was told he had 6 months and chemotherapy was the only option. After three sessions of chemotherapy, the toll was just too great on my granddad’s body, and he was put into home hospice care. Lung cancer took his life on August, 15 2006.

I ride for my aunt Mimi, a wife and mother of two. In 2008, she was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer that had spread to her lungs. After chemo, the cancer was defeated.

I ride for my Ma. In 2012, she was diagnosed with breast cancer, a few days after I found out Texas 4000 accepted me. When I got the call from my mom, I knew even more that Texas 4000 was where I belonged. After months of radiation, she is now cancer free.

Finally, I ride for the countless friends, families, and people all over who have been affected by cancer.
