About:

"Love the art in yourself, not yourself in the art" - Konstantin Stanislavsky

I love the adventures of life. I love art. I love camping. I love travel. I love discovering the world. Most of all, I love sharing the gifts I have been given with my family and friends. I am Anthony McCoy, a 21 year old Italian/Mexican hybrid living in Austin, Texas. Growing up in the small Southeast Texas city of Beaumont, I was drum major for my high school marching band. I also loved playing guitar, specifically funk and rock music, and frequently played live music around town with my dearest friends.

Following my love of performance, I now invest myself in theater productions here at the University of Texas as an actor and theatrical technician. The world of theater has done countless wonderful things for my self growth, artistic expression, and creating inseparable friendships. I continue to cultivate myself as a musician and perform my music around Austin as I hope that one day my art will be my career. To put it simply, I love making people feel.

Why I Ride

Texas 4000 means more than charity and a cross-continental bike ride to me. It is a genuinely passionate way to inspire hope in those affected with cancer. Knowing the potential I have to instill hope in so many people’s lives is overwhelming to me in the best way.

My grandfather suffers from a rare form of skin cancer. Despite being 83 years old he still visits me in Austin, plays with my younger cousins, maintains his flower garden, and brings great wisdom and happiness to everyone he encounters. To me, that is a definition of a hero. Despite dealing with cancer for over a decade, he still inspires me to be a better person through his unconditional love and beautiful spirit. If my grandfather’s inspiration has such a powerful effect on me, how powerful can my inspiration be? I am inspired by his inspiration, and aim to help anyone and everyone I can through Texas 4000.

As well, I ride for Jim O'Brien. He was a very close friend and mentor to me throughout my time in West Brook High School in Beaumont, Texas. The evenings I spent with him were full of wisdom, friendship, and love. Jim O'Brien passed away from cancer just a few years ago, but he is still a great influence in how I grow into a strong-willed man.
