About:
Hey Y'all! I was born and raised in D.C metro area which definitely prompted my passions for presidential conspiracies and the West Wing. I made my merry way down to Texas in middle school and have been here ever since. I have the most amazing mom, Anjana; sorta amazing sister and brother-in-law, Rohini and Zach ; and the MOST AMAZING little niece, SONIA. I can't forget about my crazy hyper Brittany Spaniel, Jadoo. Having such a supportive family made the prospect of riding from Austin to Alaska much more fathomable.
Currently, I am Senior studying Government and Economics. I am the President and Co-Founder of the Texas Commons, UT's first and only debate society. I am also proud to be apart of the Texas Blazers, an honorary service organization and the official hosts of UT. Off of the 40 acres, I am currently working on my Startup Stokens, a WEB3 crowdfunding platform.
In my free time, I enjoy cooking Indian food, working on my chai company, hanging out with friends, and djing. I am also passionate about meditation, quantum physics, and various transcendentalism practices.
Why I Ride
My "Dadu" (paternal grandfather) was diagnosed with cancer my junior year of highschool. Though we had many cultural divisions that made it hard for us to connect, my Dadu always did his best at making me feel loved. Everyday after school, Dadu would make me fruit chaat and we would spend an hour playing cards. The routine of playing cards after school quickly became uncool as I entered middle school, but even then Dadu would always offer to play. I went through most of my life being ashamed that my grandparents couldn't speak proper english and would often dismiss their loving efforts. I never truly recognized how lonely Dadu felt in such a foreign country. I often wish I had more time with Dadu to make up for my immaturity.
Watching Dadu's decline in health was incredibly difficult because the suffering was so palpable. For that reason, I was instantly drawn to Texas 4000's mission to fight cancer through hope. Even though so many of us have lost loved ones to cancer, I believe that hope for a cancer free tomorrow is incredibly important to keep this fight going.
I ride in remembrance of Dadu's journey and the hardships. I ride for those affected by cancer. I ride those in need of healing.
Much Love and Blessings
To Alaska and back,
Kavya
