About: Hi there! My name is Shivani, and I am currently a fourth year Neuroscience major here at UT. Outside of Texas 4000 and school, I am proudly involved in Natural Sciences Council, Texas Lassos, and Student Government.
Why I Ride
I ride to honor my privilege in my relationship to cancer. I am lucky not to have felt the direct impact of cancer among nuclear family members, as so many of my close friends and extended family have. Through these friends and family, I have felt the very real impact of cancer, and its ripple effects on so many different people.
I ride for those who struggle privately and continue to put on a brave face for everyone around them. Those who can light up a room, even as they deal with immense physical and emotional pain. You know who you are.
I ride for the knowledge. In the runaround of every day life, it is easy to become complacent when it comes to cancer prevention. I hope to push back against this complacency by advocating for simple cancer prevention practices.
In my life, I've always struggled with how much I can actually do for the causes I am passionate about. It has influenced my career path and drawn me to Texas 4000. Cancer sucks. Let's do something about it.
Please consider donating to this amazing cause, and as always, reach out to me if you would like me to ride for someone, or if you would like to talk to me about the mission of Texas 4000.
To Alaska and back,
Shivani
