About: Howdy y'all! (I have to try to blend in, since I'm not really from these parts.) Originally from Wheaton, Illinois, I moved to Austin 2 years ago. I like to think of myself as a Texan, even though I'm a Midwestern girl at heart.

I am a junior studying physics and astronomy. When not studying, I love waterskiing, biking, swimming, star-gazing, and anything else outdoors.

Why I Ride

I ride for my family... 3 of my grandparents and 2 of my aunts have suffered from cancer.

I want the opportunity to fight cancer and help raise money for the cause. And what better way to do that through than bike riding! Ever since I was little, biking has always been a big part of my family. On summer evenings, we used to bike to the ice cream shop in downtown Wheaton. And when my dad went on bike trips across Iowa and Wisconsin, although my sister and I were still quite young, we would tag along for some of it. Since biking is so linked to my family, it is only appropriate that I use it as a means of fighting cancer, which has negatively affected so many people in my family.

As my cousin Andrew said, “Cancer is never something you tackle alone. It takes many, many people over many, many days to wrap their arms around you in support to help push you to that finish line.”

My goal in participating in Texas 4000 is to bring that finish line a little bit closer. By taking this 4,500 mile journey, it is my hope to take away some of the burden so that every cancer patient’s journey to survivorship becomes a little shorter.
