About:

My name is Sagar Shah. I’m a native Houstonian, moved to Missouri City in twelfth grade, and now call Austin my home. After studying at University of Houston for two years I relocated to Austin to study at The University of Texas at Austin. Half-Longhorn, half-Cougar, I bleed a unique combination of bright red and burnt orange. Just like you, I'm really passionate about advancing the fight against cancer -- through research, fundraising and outreach efforts like Texas 4000, and hopefully as an oncologist in the future.

It wouldn't be proper to end this without mentioning my family, so here's to you, Mom, Dad, and Vishal. My parents came here on $20.00 over 30 years ago and paved the way for my brilliant older brother and me. I couldn't have lucked out without this support system, and I intend to utilize the values they have taught me -- initiative, resilience, and endless optimism -- throughout my journey with you all.

Why I Ride

I ride for my grandmother, Snehlata Chotalia, who passed away from bladder cancer in 2007. She hand made funny birthday cards, was sharp as a tack, and had a huge heart. Although I only got to see her once or twice a year, her visits were the highlight of my childhood.

I also ride for the following people, who bike alongside me through every headwind and up every mountain:

Marcelo Flores, 2012 Rockies rider
Ruel Bobet, 2012 Rockies rider
Dr. Sarah Loeb
Stephen Shafer
Mike Thompson
Detna Kacher
Dorrie Sharcott
Laura Wells-Bowers
Tran Van Tu
Nina Kumar
Darshana Nanavaty
Melissa Lee Cox
Ruben and Jen Garza
