About: I was born and raised in Dallas, and am proud of my Texas heritage as a third generation Texan. After high school I took a year off and lived in the Old City of Jerusalem to explore my Jewish religion and heritage. During my year there I gained a foundation for the principles that I strive to live by each day and hopefully for the rest of my life. My motto is, you learn something new everyday. Outside of T4K I am involved in Best Buddies, Zeta Beta Tau Fraternity, and Consult Your Community- a student nonprofit that provides pro bono consulting services. I love to play basketball and spend time outdoors- camping, fishing, and biking, but love nothing more than having a conversation with a close friend. On second thought, maybe breakfast tacos.
Why I Ride
Two of my good friends’ mother passed away from breast cancer at an age that was closer to adolescence than old age. When she was supposed to be the strong mother holding the family together she was being ripped apart from the inside out by the cancer, then the chemo, and then the cancer. But she still showed up to the basketball games, with a wrap covering her baldhead, but nothing concealing her broad smile and pride at watching her kids grow up, something that would be lost to her soon after. I remember her 3rd grade daughter in one hand while chasing after the troublemaker middle schooler. What becomes of them? How does the eldest that is only in high school take over the roles of a mother, when all she needs is some direction from her own? How does that family stand when the foundation was suddenly torn from directly under them? It is difficult to not only think of the people whose life was cut short because of cancer, but also the people, like my good friends, who need their mother’s hand to hold and usher them into the world.
I ride because cancer does not only affect the victim.
