About: I’m the girl who smiles more than people in toothpaste commercials, who fell in a ditch twice, who won a “whip-my-hair” contest, who has always lived in a home of at least 10, who ate sticks of butter whole like they were popsicles, who ran into a metal fence while looking at it, who is affectionately called "fed-ex” by her crazy wonderful siblings, who has a weakness for donuts, who is obsessed with running barefoot, who is a One Direction enthusiast, who has witnessed the miracle of life, who can’t wait to help little ones as a paediatrician, and who hopes to live in a cancer-free world."

I’m Anjali Sethi, born and raised in Allen, TX to the world’s most amazing family. Most people in the world are lucky enough to have one wonderful set of parents, but I hit the jackpot by having five. My mom and her sister married my dad and his brother, and for as long as I can remember this crazy joint family of mine has lived in one home together! I had a childhood unlike any other, living in home of 10, with three generations all under one roof. When my mom’s brother and his family moved down to Texas, life got even better and a whole lot louder! All 16 of us lived in one home for a while and I would never want it any other way. I had both sets of my amazing grandparents, two sets of wonderful Aunts and Uncles, and of course the world’s best mommy and daddy who inspire me daily. In addition to all my “parents,” God gave me 5 partners-in crime, 5 confidants, and 5 best friends within my 5 beautiful siblings. Granted that 3 of those 5 “siblings” are technically my cousins, they’ll forever be called my brothers and sister. My family is my rock. They’re the ones who’ve celebrated my successes, carried me through my failures, support me unconditionally, teach me to be better while still letting me come into my own, help me understand the important things in life, and show me how to love instead of just tell me how.

I’m a world traveller and seek adventure! I’ve had a snowball fight in Canada, hiked part of the Great Wall of China, rode a horse in India, ate my weight in croissants in France, swam with the fish in Hawaii, rock-climbed on a cruise-ship around the Caribbean, bargain shopped in Spain, strolled the streets of Italy, and so much more!

While I’m not home curled up in my parent’s room with all of my siblings watching Friends or on a worldwide adventure, I’m busy at the GREATEST University in all the land, pursuing all the things I love! I’m obsessed with my major, Human Development and Family Sciences and still can’t believe I get to spend every day studying what I love! I’m on the track to making my dreams of becoming a paediatrician a reality from all the amazing resources Austin has to offer! Here I’ve discovered my passion for service and my love for learning. I’ve found my home at UT within Texas Spirits, FLO, Camp Texas, Texas THON, and so much more. I’ve found my future bridesmaids, my passions, my favorite foods, and my place. Here I’ve found myself.

Why I Ride

One too many times in my life, I’ve witnessed a medical condition completely out of one’s control take control over their lives and ultimately take them away. Enough is enough. I ride to put an end to loss of control over one’s life at the hands of cancer.

God has blessed me in countless ways, one of which was saving my grandpa, my Nanaji. My Nanaji is a prostate cancer survivor. My family is everything, and I couldn’t even begin to think about the possibility of loosing him. My family was blessed and I want to put those blessings to use. I am healthy and I want to use my health to help others.

I ride for all those who’ve been affected by cancer. I ride for the little kids I worked with in the hospital who had cancer steal their childhood. I ride for the families who had cancer steal their loved ones. I ride to bring back all the hope that cancer stole. I ride for those whose future cancer stole. I ride to stop cancer from stealing anything more.

I’m a firm believer that nothing in this world is impossible. I ride to make an exception to that rule. I ride in the effort to make the possibility of having cancer be the one thing in this world that is impossible.

I want to help others. I want to bring back hope to those who’ve lost it. Dumbledore said it best when he said “Happiness can be found even in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light.” I want to be that light and bring back happiness and life to those who had cancer take it away.
