About:
I am 22 years old, born and raised in Texas, and am currently attending my fourth year at UT Austin, where I’m double majoring in anthropology and public health while on a pre-med track. I have a passion for music and play the violin, piano, and guitar in a band on the weekends. When I’m not playing music or being busy with my classes, you can find me wandering through Austin with a camera in hand, feeding stray cats, or exploring the outdoors on my bike! I love to laugh and can have a silly sense of humor, though I may seem serious and quiet at first. I also enjoy trying and discovering new things!
I am very fortunate in that I have not lost any close friends or family to cancer. However, I experienced loss at a young age when my best friend’s mother and my mom’s best friend both died from lung cancer, and this helped fuel my desire to become a doctor and to alleviate the pain of others. I spent my summers exploring different aspects of the medical field, from clinical shadowing to laboratory research in MD Anderson, and gained experience of both the humanistic and scientific sides of medicine. I hope to challenge myself in order to become the best that I can be, to spread compassion and education, and to make a positive impact in peoples’ lives.
Why I Ride
Health is one of the most valuable factors affecting our lives, yet good health is often taken for granted. The important role that health plays in our lives is one of the reasons why I am in Texas 4000 and pursuing medicine. I want to gain the knowledge and ability to heal and help people in a meaningful way and to influence one of the most significant aspects of their lives.
Though cancer affects so many people around the world every year, funding for cancer research is always in short supply for something that has such a large impact. Texas 4000 is an amazing opportunity to raise money for an incredible cause, while educating people about cancer prevention and spreading hope and awareness about fighting cancer.
I am so excited about this journey where we can share the compassion, the triumphs, and the struggles, while fighting for a common goal. Together, we can be the change that initiates an impactful ripple throughout communities, where we will inspire and become inspired.
