About:
Hello! My name is Jonathan Amos and I am a fourth-year majoring in Exercise Science. I love the outdoors, the people and things in it, and I think that the world is an exciting place (even College Station).
I was born and raised in Houston, and while I can’t say I have travelled the world and seen all that there is to see, I can tell you I have watched enough Animal Planet to convince myself that I am going to. Some day I hope to set off and explore and until then I am enjoying each stop along the way.
Why I Ride
When I was much younger, I remember living in a world where cancer didn't exist. You hear about it on the news, the radio, everywhere, and yet I knew no one who was directly affected. I was wrong; the truth was all around me and I was oblivious to it. The reality was that few people spoke about the cancer of their loved ones and even fewer spoke about their own. In time, I came to find that my family was no exception.
I remember applying for this program wondering how I could possibly prove myself to these people who had such amazing stories. They were tales of personal struggle and triumph, of accomplishing the fantastic. I couldn't place myself in their shoes and was afraid that I wouldn't be able to make myself into the man who would be able to stand (or sit if you care for cycling puns) alongside the other riders in the fight against cancer.
Again, I was wrong. Neither my experience nor my strength could ever mirror that of those who war with cancer but I will make that fight my own and shoulder the burden cancer has forced upon them.
I ride for everyone that has ever had cancer or ever will. I ride for the uncertainty of the future, for you, my grandma, and lastly for myself.
