About:

My name is Brooke Elberger and I am a junior at the University of Texas. I was born and raised in Houston, Texas. Ever since I was little, I thought doctors were superheroes. Although this was my true aspiration, I never thought I would have the confidence to actually be a pre-medical student. I decided to take a leap of faith after shadowing doctors in high school and pursue the career I have always wanted to do. My major is Psychology with a minor in Biology. I am interested in studying why people behave the way they do, particularly what compels individuals to be capable of such great compassion. I spend my free time as a member of Alpha Epsilon Phi Sorority and Women in Medicine. I enjoy running, cycling, and any other form of exercise I can find time to do. I spend as much time around my family and friends as possible because they are what keep me smiling and give me the strength to challenge myself everyday.

Why I Ride

I ride for those who can’t. There is no doubt in my mind that everyday of this ride will be a physical and mental struggle. This is no different than the struggles that cancer patients endure everyday. The patients however, are not given an option. The healthy life that I have been given is a gift, not a privilege. I am lucky enough to have two working legs, feet, hands, eyes, and the opportunity at an influential voice. The random chance that left me with these healthy appendages rather than those who are sick with cancer means that I have the duty to advocate for those affected. I will use all of my strength to help their plight so that they, whether it be a total stranger or a close family member, may be able to one day share this gift of health with me and enjoy life to its fullest. I ride for all patients living with cancer. I ride for all of those whose friends and loved ones have been affected by cancer. I ride for education and prevention, and I ride for the day that cancer is no longer a word synonymous with defeat.
