About:

My name is Kabir Husain, and I was born and raised in Houston, Texas. I am a Muslim first and foremost. Islam is not only my religion but also my way of life. Everything I do in life is an attempt to have a closer relationship with God because without Him, I would not have been able to be where I am today, at The University of Texas! My family is the second most important aspect of my life. I have one brother, Zaid, who is 4 years older than me and attends law school. My parents raised me to be humble and to live a life serving others. This is where I got the motivation and determination to join Texas4000, from the values instilled in me at a young age. I absolutely love sports! Basketball is my passion. I also like football, baseball, soccer, and hockey. I not only like watching all these sports but also I love playing them. I am a very competitive person in all aspects of my life especially academically and athletically. I compete with my friends in school and on the basketball courts in hopes that we all get better and outperform each other. I am currently a senior and I am an Islamic Studies major with a minor in biology. I am also a pre-med student with hopes of attending medical school. I want to become a doctor because that is where I believe I can best help and contribute to society. I attended Culver Military Academy for high school. Culver is in a small town in rural northern Indiana in the town of Culver. It is at Culver where I learned the values of responsibility, leadership, teamwork, discipline, and time management.

Being an American Muslim, family, education, theology, pre-medical studies, and sports have all infused me into the person I am today. A big part of my perception on life and attitude has come from my family. They have always encouraged me to follow my faith and to be enthusiastic about life and always have a positive attitude no matter what curveballs have been thrown my way. This is the type of spirit I want to bring to those affected by cancer. I want to show them that there is always hope. If someone with cancer can go through chemotherapy then why can’t I bike to Alaska? If I can bike over 4000 miles to Alaska then that person with cancer can go to one more round of chemo and keep fighting the fight! No one is alone in the battle against cancer!

Why I Ride

I ride for all the children at the Dell’s Children Oncology Clinic. This year I have started volunteering at the Dell's Children Oncology Clinic. I ride for them because they can’t. I know any one of those children would love to go outside and ride a bike, but unfortunately they cannot. Some of the children sometimes have no hope that they will get better and feel they will be sick forever. I want to bring them hope and show them they are not alone in their struggle. These children are very brave because they have to go through so much at a young age; yet they still manage to keep a smile and enjoy life. However, they are still children and they do feel down sometimes with no hope for a future. I want to ride to help raise money for research in hopes that a cure is found one day. Cancer research is growing and advancing every day with every dollar. Being a pre-med student, I want to be at the forefront of cancer research in the future to help defeat this disease. I want to ride to show the kids how many people have joined the fight against cancer and that they are not alone. I just want to bring a smile to their face because they face so much adversity at a young age, even though biking to Alaska cannot even compare to what these children have to go through. Raising money can greatly help cancer research and being a pre-med student I would love to have the opportunity to be involved in research when I become a doctor. If any little dollar can go to finding a cure one day, that’s what counts in my eyes. That is why I ride, in hopes for a brighter future for all the children out there with cancer.

Recently my aunt was diagnosed with cancer. I will be keeping her in my thoughts and prayers throughout my journey.
