About:
I am a third year Biochemistry/Pre-Med major at the University of Texas at Austin. I am a trumpet player for the Longhorn Band and have been since I came to UT. Stepping onto the turf of DKR Texas Memorial Stadium is a once in a lifetime experience and still is to this day. I am involved in two music fraternities at UT that promote the performance of music in schools and turning college boys into men of high ideals through brotherhood and harmony.
I am from Fort Worth, TX. Yes the good ole stockyards; home to country stars and the Tarantula Steam Engine Train. I went to High School at W.E. Boswell High School, home of the Pioneers. I was a two year Drum Major of my high school band and involved in a multitude of on campus organizations. On weekends my friends and I would go out on Eagle Mountain Lake and hang out on a barge just to enjoy each other’s time and friendship. I enjoy spending time with my family. My favourite times of the year were the holidays so I could see my family and share stories of the good times we have had throughout the years.
Why I Ride
I have had many family members and a friend who have suffered or past due to cancer. My Great Aunt Bobbie was the first I can remember who was taken from us. She never had children of her own so she treated all of her nieces and nephews and even their children as if they were her own kin. She fought with Ovarian Cancer for nearly two years before she lost the battle. Other family members such as my grandmother, my mom, my Aunt Rhonda and Aunt Heather have fought and won the battle and give hope to others around them to keep up their will to fight against cancer. My friend Lance Fowler sure gave me hope to help find a cure. Lance was only 13 years old when he lost the long 2 year fight to Neuro-Blastoma. Lance played trumpet with me in middle school band and always had a quirky anecdote to share with our section. My band director always referred to him as Miles since he bore a resemblance to the great Miles Davis. Cancer is a great burden on our society and has been since its arrival. 150,000 diagnosed with the disease is too high of a number for the kinds of advances and knowledge that is accessible to world. It is our job as individuals to carry each other and work together to find a cure.
I ride for my Maw-Maw, my Mom and the rest of my family.
I ride for Lance.
I ride for hope that one day we will find a cure.
I ride to give strength to those affected by cancer.
I ride to extend the lives of people with any forms of cancer.
