About:
Hi I’m Rojesh. I was born on March 27th, 1991 in Kathmandu, Nepal. I grew up in an average middle class household with 15 family members. I was a happy go kid and loved my life. I attended Nepali School and was involved in many sports such as Soccer, table tennis and basketball. My life took 180 turn when my parents in U.S. were financially ready for us to join them on September 2005. As a kid who kept things to himself, my life completely changed. It offered me with a new knowledge and a fresh start in my life. I started doing community services and had fun doing it. I volunteered for Nepalese Cultural and Religious Summer Camp and joined other fundraising events like “2008 The Dallas Everest Lions Club Talent Show”, and found out that there was more to life rather than enjoying it and having fun. I understood that helping others and sharing the knowledge about what we learn through the experience can be fun and fulfilling.
Why I Ride
Cancer is a deadly disease that has to be stopped. It has terrorized us for many years and we still don’t have a cure for it. Some people are lucky to detect the cancer in early stage and treat it with long painstaking process. But most people are not so lucky to detect it early and suffer a lot in his/her life. My grandfather was a role model for me who never gave up during hard times. Constantly battling with diabetics, he gave his best to stay healthy. I spent most of my childhood with him and it is one of my precious memories. On January 4, 2010, he took his last breath battling liver cancer. The doctors didn’t know what was wrong with him until his death and found later that cancer had progress very far. He seemed healthy until one week before his death and could do his daily chores. Then he suddenly collapsed and had to be rushed to the hospital where he died a week later. If we only knew what was wrong with him early on, he would have started on the treatment and lived longer. Cancer is hard to notice and we won’t know until it has progress a lot. So I hope that the fundraising we will do will help a people be diagnosed with cancer at early age so that they can be saved and take a cancer research to whole new level.
