About:
I claim Austin as my home, but I haven't always lived here. I grew up in Ft. Loudon, PA; if you're not familiar with Pennsylvania, it's halfway in between Philadelphia and Pittsburgh. We lived close to a ski resort so in the winter I spent a lot of my time snowboarding. In the summer I worked for my Dad's landscaping business. When I turned 18, I joined the Air Force and got stationed in Abilene, TX. Since it's usually like 110 degrees outside, I started reading more and playing my guitar. After serving four years in the Air Force I moved to Austin to start studying.
I'm currently a Senior at UT working toward a Bachelor in Business Administration. My major is Marketing. In Austin, I love riding my bike, listening to live music, and spending time with the incredible people I meet here. In the future . . . well, Texas 4000 is all I have planned for now.
Why I Ride
I ride for my grandfather, James Brown. He was born in 1933 on a farm in Virginia. When he was old enough to work, he found a job at a steel mill in Maryland, where he worked for over 50 years. From what I understand, work conditions were rather unregulated at this time. My mother told me he would always come home covered in reddish-orange dust from working around the rusted steel. He was also a smoker for most of his life. The damage he caused to his lungs caused him to get lung cancer early in 2000. He survived with the disease for several years, but in 2005 it spread and became terminal. He passed away in May of 2007.
