About:
Hi there! Or as Texans we like to say Howdy from Austin, Texas! My name is Omar, and I’m a proud Pakistani American born in Los Angeles, California. I was raised in the Middle East during my childhood in the city of Riyadh and later came to Texas where I spent thirteen wonderful years in Houston, Texas. Texas is my home, and Houston is a city full of diversity and lasting memories. The friends I have made them and the time I have spent there, shapes the person I am today. Currently I am a student at the University of Texas at Austin (HOOK EM’!), pursuing a degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Supply Chain Management. I am here at the greatest University in America figuring out all the endeavors life has to offer.
Being from Pakistani origin is a big part of my life. I am proud of the heritage my culture has to offer while showing the pride and blessings of being an American. As a student here, UT allowed me to see the wonderful student body our campus has to offer while still keeping the roots of my background. Before coming here I had only remembered traces of speaking Urdu and remembering my culture. Being here in Austin with so much diversity has made me realize how culture and the American way of life can be brought together in a melting pot society.
I love Tennis and being a proud Longhorn fan. Football season is probably one of the times as a longhorn student! Besides academics, I enjoy playing ping pong with family and friends, Bungee jumping, Free Falling, Hanging out and making new friends, long road trips across North America with family, hiking, and being active with Nueces Mosque here at UT as the Finance officer.
If you have made it this down please email me at [email protected] and I would love to hear your thoughts or any advice :)
Why I Ride
Cancer Research has been pushed and widely spread for the past few decades. Still we see Cancer rates continuing to increase with unhealthy lifestyles that come from obesity, smoking, environmental factors and much more. With Cancer continuing to climb, it may only be a matter of time when we will see several of the loved ones in our lives being at risk of this disease, if not already. But that’s exactly why I wish to ride. To beat the increasing rate of Cancer being spread and fight in an effort to raise awareness, educate prevention steps, and mostly bring hope for those who have been directly and indirectly affected by it.
In many ways Texas 4000 is first seen as a challenge that can be unlikely to accomplish. Cancer brings in grim words of failure and lost hope. I’m here to defy the odds with this team, God willing. To fight, to ride, in an effort to revive hope and bring in love for those in our lives is my mission. I can only hope riding a few thousand miles can bring the opportunities of cure and joy for the ones we love and seek to love in our futures.
I ride for my aunt, for the country of Pakistan, my faith and mostly for those having the financial difficulty to not be treated for Cancer and other serious illnesses. Summer of 2012..can't wait
