About:

Hi there. My name is Marcelo but I go by Mars.

I'm from Eagle Pass, Texas; a tiny little border town down south. I've got 3 siblings; all very cool people. They're my best friends, to be honest. If we ever meet, make sure I introduce you to them. I study Radio-Television-Film at UT with a certificate in Business Foundations (not really sure what that means yet).

Since I moved to Austin, I've come to love the outdoors. I enjoy running, hiking, swimming, doing yoga and just a little bit of biking.

I love meeting people. I guess you could say it's another hobby of mine. I take a high interest in what others have to say. This is a big world that we live in. There are so many stories to be told, and so many more to be heard. I believe it's important to write. It's good for self reflection. And after a few years it's cool to look back at what I thought mattered.

I do my best to enjoy life every day. We worry about so much at once that we forget to appreciate what we have.

A few more beliefs:
Eating is an art. So is cooking. Family comes before anyone. Knowing how to breathe is key. Health should be everyone's number one priority. Water is the elixir of life.

that's a little bit about me.

Why I Ride

I ride for my grandpop, Eloy Tamez. Although I only got to see him once or twice a year, his visits were the highlight of my summers.
I remember my mother boasting about how her father of 82 years would walk two miles to-and-from work every day (especially because he and my grandmother lived atop a very steep hill). He was very old-fashioned and always said that at his age, one needed to enjoy every moment in life and stay active.

A few years back, he slipped on a flight of stairs and broke his arm. That accident changed our lives. As soon as we got word from the hospital, the doctor told us that my grandfather was diagnosed with bone cancer; he was only given a few months. His passing took an especially hard toll on my mom. The way it affected her was very hard to watch: her lack of motivation, her anger, her isolation; it made me see a side to her I didn’t recognize.

I ride for too many reasons.

I'll be taking my brother, Ruel Bobet, with me this summer as well. He's also on our Rockies 2012 team. I ride for your dad, buddy.
