About:
Young and fearless, I am 19 years old and proud to call myself a local Austinite. I have my mother’s sense of optimism, my brother’s sense of humor, and my father’s ridiculous smirk. From tree climbing to horseback riding, I was an adventurous kid who grew up to be an adventurous…well, older kid. Throughout high school I enjoyed playing volleyball, running track, and participating in student council. My friends and family mean the world to me. Every day with them is a blessing that deserves to be dearly treasured. As a true Austinite, I can’t imagine a world without outdoor activities, Tex-Mex, Town Lake, and the annual Keep Austin Weird 5K.
Fast, Fun Facts!
- My friends often call me “Mother Hen” due to my oddly nurturing and protective nature.
- I refuse to believe that burnt orange is not a primary color.
- Some lost their heart in San Francisco. I, however, lost my eyebrow in Paris. (A minor medical mishap in the Spring of 2009)
- If I had to eat one dish for the rest of my life, it would be gazpacho.
- I often ride my tandem bike around the UT campus. The reactions of innocent bystanders are priceless. If you happen to see me, please wave!
Why I Ride
The unfortunate truth is that cancer can affect anyone, anywhere, at anytime. As a result, it is this indiscriminate nature of cancer that makes this disease so unbelievably frightening. It can affect the lives of the most unexpected people as it is impartial to a victim’s age, character, health, or happiness.
However, it is this same commonality that allows us to unite so easily. We as humans, whether directly affected by cancer or not, have the obligation and the honor to fight this worldwide disease. I consider myself blessed that no one in my immediate family has been diagnosed, but I have witnessed the trying times of friends who have not been as fortunate. They need emotional support, funding for medical research, and most importantly, a hope for the future. Riding to Alaska is no small feat, but it pales in comparison to one’s battle against cancer.
I ride for improved cancer treatments.
I ride to inspire those who can’t.
I ride for a cure.
