About:
I was born in a small town in India. During my childhood, I lived back and forth between India and the Middle East for many years. When I was ten years old, my family and I had the privilege to move to the United States in the hopes of finding a better life and a better future for ourselves. I am truly blessed to have loving parents and two wonderful younger siblings.
I am currently a senior at The University of Texas at Austin. I am majoring in Kinesiology and pursuing a minor in Biology. I can truly say that the past three years here at UT have been nothing short of amazing, and I plan to make the rest of the time here just as special. If I have learned one thing from going to such a large university, it's the fact that people can truly make a difference when they have a common goal in mind.
Why I Ride
In this day and age that we are living in, cancer is a common term. We have all been touched by it in one way or another. My grandpa was the closest person in my life to have been effected by cancer. Fortunately, the doctors were able to treat it and with a few minor procedures every year, they are able to keep it away. But the reality is, not everyone is as lucky. Every day, this disease wreaks havoc on the lives of people all over the world. And every day, cancer patients put on a brave face and fight for control of their lives back.
So many of my extended family members have been affected by cancer and all I was able to do - until now - was hope for the best. Too often I have wondered to myself, what could I do to help? I believe this commitment I am making to bike from Texas to Alaska is a start because the challenges I will face during this ride are only a fraction of the pain that a cancer patient endures day to day. Moreover, through word of mouth and fundraising many people will receive better knowledge of how much cancer affects our society and thousands of dollars will be raised in hope of, and God-willing, finding a cure one day.
