About:
My name is Rachel Brenner. I am a biology student at UT and an Austin native!
In high school, I was on a competitive juniors rowing team at Texas Rowing Center, where I learned that I was physically capable of a lot more than I thought. I chose not to do crew at UT because I wanted to be able to try out new things. Though a pretty slow runner, I have made it a point to finish the Capitol 10,000 the past two years (even with food poisoning in 2008!) I love challenging myself in everything I do, and stepping out of my comfort zone whenever I get the chance. It’s how I grow.
I have a large, incredible family. My mother is a native Texan, my father an Italian immigrant. I am blessed to still have all of my grandparents, aunts and uncles (of which there are many) around to make sure I’m “on the right track”. I have been able to live the life I do in large part thanks to the support and love of my family. They are my closest and dearest friends, my support, and my guiding light.
Why I Ride
I ride for my family. I ride to encourage them when they struggle with their health and hopefully to protect them, especially my younger cousins, by contributing to the fight against cancer.
But, more importantly, I ride in appreciation of them. I ride so that I don't for one moment forget how lucky I am to have all of them alive and around me, happy and (for the most part) healthy.
