About:
I grew up in the great town of Katy, Texas and went to Katy High School.I am a 21 year old student enjoying my first year at UT. Hook em' Horns! I recently just crossed over to the good side from Texas A&M.
I have always loved sports whether it was soccer, basketball, or swimming (my favorite). My favorite place to be is the beach! Actually, anything that has to deal with water is a good place in my mind.I love the outdoors and grew up taking many camping trips whether it was with Girl Scouts, my brother’s boy scout troop, or family outings. I am blessed to have a wonderful family and many friends that have always been there for me. I am the youngest of two, with an older brother who is 25. My dad and mom have been by my side through everything and they are my biggest supporters. Although I have had a few extra obstacles than the average 21 year old, I wouldn’t trade them for anything because it made me who I am today.
Why I Ride
I didn’t always know that I wanted to be a nurse, but after being diagnosed with Ewing’s Sarcoma my senior year of high school, and losing my stepdad from kidney cancer my freshman year of college, I realized that I was meant to help people. I love being able to help someone through a bump in their life even if it’s just being there to talk to them. I live by the motto “Everything happens for a reason and it’s what you do with it that counts.” Having cancer is never in anyone’s plans for life but it’s something that in today’s world is very common. I took my negative experience and turned it into a positive one by sharing my story and helping others through their treatments and rough times. I am an active volunteer for CanCare in Houston and an advocate for young people struggling with cancer. If I’m not studying for school or volunteering for CanCare, I am usually hanging out with my friends and enjoying life. I ride for my stepdad, Richard Hutchinson. He passed away in February of 2007 from kidney cancer after battling it for almost two years. We shared our cancer experience at the exact same time and were only floors apart from each other at MD Anderson. He had a unique personality and was loved by many people. If he wasn’t working on computer software for BMC, he was out at Skydive Houston getting a few jumps in.
