About:

I was born in Washington state and moved to Texas when I was four. I have lived in Harlingen (near Brownsville... near Mexico) ever since.

Right now, I'm in my 5th and final year of college. I plan on working for a year and then I hope to go on to Law school.

Why I Ride

Everyone is afraid of getting cancer. Regardless of what we tell ourselves about how it's not going to happen to us, our hearts still skip a beat if we feel a strange lump, or see a mole getting bigger.

Why is everyone so afraid? Because fighting cancer is a task that even the strongest of us can, and often do fail. Cancer doesn't discriminate. It can hit anyone at any time. We all know that if we get cancer we're in for the fight of our life, and we may well not be up to the challenge.

Many of us have lost loved ones to cancer. We know that cancer only adds to one's burdens. Cancer brings massive medical bills; it brings sickness and pain. But cancer can also show us the best in people. The struggle against cancer exposes the deepest depths of strength, determination, and love.

I believe in science. I believe in the strength of will that it takes for someone to survive cancer. I know that with our knowledge and our determination we can find a cure, if only we want to badly enough. In order for that to happen, we need to provide money for research and treatment.

But money is not enough. Money can't provide inspiration all by itself. The most important part of fighting this disease is universal, regardless of whether we're talking about an individual locked in their own struggle or the entire modern world racing for a cure. It's Hope. Events like the Texas 4000 can provide that hope.

My mother fought breast cancer for a number of years. Her cancer went into remission only to come back aggressively about a year later. She died when I was 12, over 10 years ago. Throughout all the time that she fought cancer, not once did I hear her complain.

My mother studied to become a registered nurse because she wanted to help people. She was always trying to improve the lives of those around her. I ride to honor her memory.
