About:

I was born and raised in the hugeness that is Houston, Tx with my immediate family of 3 brothers and 1 sister. I had a typical childhood of swimming and hide and seek and spent most of my time with my family. I always loved building and manipulating things with my hands, going to the beach, playing soccer, and music of course. I finally got to meet the rest of my family who lived in Palestine and that changed my outlook on life. I became aware of struggle and felt extremely lucky to be where I was no matter where I was, since I had no place to complain. I had a very normal high school experience. College was a great time of self seeking and experience. It took awhile but I figured out what I’d like to do with myself. I am a 5th year Biology senior and I will graduate this year, hopefully complete this amazing bike trek, go to the Peace Corps, go to Medical school, and then make an adult of myself. I’ve got the roadmap, now it’s time to make it work.

Why I Ride

Cancer is everywhere. It is one of those horrific things I heard about but luckily never had any exposure to. I am extremely fortunate to still not personally know anyone who’s had the struggle, but I’ve heard what the struggle entails. It sounds like a nightmare that seems to be recurring in this world. I also know that there is a lot of research to discover what causes cancer and how we can cure it. I know there are a whole lot of question marks and we have a while until we figure that out, but there are some good leads. In our society today we are very disconnected from the things that go into our foods, homes, and environments. A number of those things have strong carcinogenic effects that we still utilize. An even bigger number haven’t been labeled carcinogenic but have evidence showing toxicities. I feel that educating people that our bodies are sanctuaries that we need to protect from harmful substances and situations will do a lot to minimize the numbers we read about. The messages I want to spread are: Early Prevention and Early Detection!!! We have some of the best doctors in the world, so we need to be sure to use that resource to detect a tumor before metastasis happens. We need to do away with allowing carcinogenic chemicals to be used in factories for industrial purposes only to be pumped into our environment, eventually getting into our lungs and effecting our biochemistry in a negative manner. It is important for me to be a part of Texas 4000. I want to ride for those affected by cancer, taken by cancer, and those who beat cancer. I want to be there to spread awareness and bring motivation to everyone I see.
