About:
I was born in Austin, Texas and except for a study abroad stint in France, I have lived in Texas my whole life. I am close with my family and friends and appreciate their support and encouragement in all my endeavours. I grew up fervently enjoying the outdoors through competitive rock climbing, soccer, golf and wakeboarding as well as recreational mountain biking, hiking and camping.
My older brother attended The University of Texas but I decided to “divide the household” and come to Texas A&M University where I am studying finance and economics and am graduating in May of 2009.
I have hiked the Grand Canyon, studied abroad in France and have been hang gliding in the Swiss Alps. I enjoy tackling challenges, accomplishing goals and am always on the lookout for the next adventure.
Why I Ride
Fighting cancer is a battle that can be won and is very worthy of our time, money and attention. It is due to the development of new technology and medicine over the years that have enabled us to fight this disease at our current ability. It is evident through lost lives and hardships placed on families that our current ability to fight this disease is not good enough.
Participating in an event such as the Texas 4000 is a step in the right direction. This ride helps not only accumulate funds for the research and development of new technology and medicine but creates awareness that this disease needs attention. While I have never been diagnosed with cancer myself, it is through my personal experiences with loved ones that I am passionate about finding the cure. I share Warren Buffett's mentality regarding charities in that I believe everyone has callings in life, and while mine is not to be a cancer researcher or doctor, I enjoy helping in other capacities.
