About: I was born and raised in San Antonio, TX and have lived in Austin since coming to the University of Texas in 2002. I recently graduated from UT with two degrees in Radio Television & Film and Journalism, my area of focus being photojournalism. When I don't have a camera to my eye, I spend my time hanging out with friends, biking around Austin, and managing a housing co-op of over 100 students where I am the house director. I am working with a few other riders on the Media/PR committee for Texas 4000 and have made it one of my goals to put my degrees to good work by putting together a feature length documentary about our ride, Texas 4000, and everything the organization does for cancer research and awareness.
Why I Ride
I have known many people in my life that have been affected by cancer. Most of them have fought and survived, some of them are still struggling, but a few of them have lost the battle. It is for all those that are still struggling that I ride for but I dedicate my ride to the memory of Gladys Werland who passed away from cancer in 1998. After I was born, my mother went back to work three weeks later and Gladys became my second mother, taking care of me for the next four years. She taught me how to read and write and was an integral part in my growing up and development. Her death was the first that I ever faced in my life and it is with the ride that I hope one day there will be a way to help all those that are fighting to overcome cancer.
