About: My life has always had Texas as its backdrop, and so it holds a special place in my heart. I do not know what it is like to live anywhere but here. I grew up mostly in Houston, a lovely little swamp in a south-eastern expanse of the state. My life as it relates to the bicycle started as a child. Like a lot of kids, riding bikes was my favorite activity for a large part of my childhood. I did not put myself back on to two wheels again until I got to Texas Tech, where I found mountain biking in the most unlikely of places. I now live, learn and play here in Austin. Playing and listening to music has been an integral part of my life since I was young and is an expression of life for which I am deeply passionate. I love the town’s people and its atmosphere, and it certainly has facilitated my love of all things bike. Living a great deal of my life outside is a priority for me and I believe travel is vital to a well-rounded life, so I try to leave as often as possible. Being a part of Texas 4000 is a unique opportunity that embodies many aspects of my life that I find sacred.
Why I Ride
I aspire to be in the field of medicine for no greater reason than to help people. Therefore I aspire to help those in need. It is simple to say and simple to want, but I find it a great challenge to actually do. My undergraduate experience has enabled me to dance at the edge of this ideal, and my ever increasing desire to take action has somehow brought me here. Texas 4000 is an opportunity for me to be one with my aspirations, giving myself and others a chance to make a real and lasting impact on our own lives and more importantly the lives of those battling cancer.
