About: I was born and raised in a small town in Connecticut. I spent most of my time as a kid doing gymnastics and eating oreos. I then made my way up to Boston where I went to Boston University, did a bunch of community service work, sailed boats, and traveled to Nepal and Tibet for a semester. I finally worked my way down to Austin to go to grad school at UT (just finished up with a degree in Speech-Language Pathology). Now, I am working for Austin Independent School District as a speech pathologist. Aside from work, I spend most of my time rock climbing (I'm hoping that transfers over well to cycling......we'll see)!
Why I Ride
Cancer was always one of those awful things that luckily never made its way into my immediate family. It was out there. It was devastating. But it was staying away from those I cared most about...until last February. I made my daily phone call to my dad and I got the news. He had prostate cancer. Cancer had now made its way into my immediate family. We continued to remain fortunate, however. Due to early detection, the cancer was quickly removed. We were soon back to our normal lives. The difference is that cancer is no longer in the back of our minds, as it was prior to my dad's experience. Too many people don't get to go back to their normal lives once cancer enters in. Given that, it is important to me to be a part of Texas 4000. I want to ride for those affected by cancer, as well as those who have been fortunate enough to escape it. I want to be a part of a challenge that will raise awareness, create inspiration, and instill hope.
