About: My name is Paul, and I'm a Plan II major at UT Austin. This is my first year at college and I'm still learning the ropes, so I'm really glad to have found an organization like Texas 4000; it gives me some solidarity among people with a common interest of mine. I've been riding bikes since the seventh grade for the MS 150 ride from Houston to Austin, but I've never attempted anything on this scale. When I'm not riding, you can probably find me outdoors with the Great Outdoors Project, or discussing literature, movies, and philosophy with my friends. I always try to involve myself in something important, because I think it is our moral responsibility to look out for one another. We're all in this together, so we should work to make the world a better place for each of us.

Why I Ride

I'm sure everyone has a laundry list of people they've known who have had cancer. If I had to pick one person I'm riding for, it's my brother. He was diagnosed with bladder cancer, and while that strain isn't particularly life threatening, it really hit home when my own brother got it. His situation was made the more tragic in my opinion because he'd just recently had a son, my nephew. He had to go through many operations to try and get rid of the cancers and keep them in check, which was pretty scary for our whole family. John's been cancer-free for over a year now, but I don't think we'll ever forget this.
