About: As the saying goes; I am not from Texas, but I came as fast as I could. So I was born and raised in Budapest, and ended up moving to Texas in 2000. It was quite a cultural shock, but the more time I spent in the great state of Texas the more I liked it. I am a graduating senior, studying Computer Science at UT. Sometimes itâ??s really hard to believe how fast these four years went byâ?¦ However this trip is definitely the way to conclude such a wonderful time of my life. While at UT, I pretty much spent all my free time with sports. I played for the UT Rugby Club for three years, and now I am part of the Universityâ??s Squash Club. I lived one and a half year in a coop, which I love and probably would live there for the rest of my life if it was possible. Since both my sports and the coop are as international as they come, I have friends all over the world from Tirana to Sydney and they are all impressed when they hear about this trip. So I canâ??t wait to show the world that weâ??ll successfully complete both our fundraising and cycling goals.
Why I Ride
I had not been faced with cancer for a very long time, when the disease hit one of my most beloved family members, my dear Grandfather. I was devastated, when he told me about his disease... I used to talk to him for hours about how we were going to deal with it and that he would be able to live for long years to come. He seemed very strong at all times, because he did not want me to worry about him.
Unfortunately things turned for the worse, and even though he put up a huge fight against this horrible disease, he could not defeat it and passed away on 13th June, 2004. I am still struggling to get myself over loosing him, and my main reason for being part of the 2006 Team of Texas 4000 for Cancer is that I know that he would be very proud of me if he knew that I will be completing a bike ride for such a great cause.
