About:
I am a native Texan and faithful Longhorn, graduating in December, 2005 with a BS Electrical Engineering. Being an Air Force kid, I grew up in several places, but most of all in San Antonio, Texas. I have recently graduated and left Austin for Colorado Springs to work for Fluke Networks.
I am riding in memory of Dan Dampeer, Renaldo Gardner, Jim Tobin, and Eve Gardner, who are all missed and remind me how important this cause is. I am also riding for Ray Kulju, Anna Kulju, and Greg Gardner, who I hope will all be healthy for many years to come.
Why I Ride
Fighting cancer through education, charity, and service is an obligation we all share as human beings. Those of us lucky enough not to contract the disease will still see people they care about struggle with it. Improving awareness, screening, and treatment will be a long, hard fight, and it will require the time and effort of countless people over many years.
The immense challenge of fighting cancer means it is all the more important to draw in new participation each year. One reason I wanted to be a part of Texas 4000 For Cancer is the connection it creates between so many communities between Austin and Anchorage. I am grateful to be able to donate my time and encourage others to do the same. While the money we raise for the ACS is of course important, the awareness and the volunteerism this organization encourages are what makes it special.
