About: I was born in San Angelo, TX on June 18, 1985. At age five, I moved with my dad to Mason, TX, a tiny town of 2000 nestled in the Hill Country. As a "true Texas gal," I knew from an early age that I wanted to be a Longhorn. I graduated class of '03 from Mason High School. Currently, I am a junior at UT majoring in Journalism. After graduating, and of course this amazing ride, I hope to join the Peace Corps for a couple of years and then pursue a Masters in Social Work. For the time being though, I enjoy concerts, friends, and road trips (in this case on bikes). I am extremely excited about working hard to help people!

Why I Ride

I,like so many, have known a person who fought a brave battle with cancer, yet was still taken by it. I have also seen the heartbreak and sense of loss that was felt by family and friends after his passing. At the same time though, I also know a person who fought a brave battle with cancer and beat it, and I saw the thanks and relief felt by her family and friends. The thing is, in both, I saw a greater passion for life, a greater appreciation for family and friends, and a greater compassion for one another. While they experienced different endings, the two are still equally inspirational and are examples of people who, even at their worst moment, become their best. This summer, I am riding for those two people, who, though they may not even realize, have inspired me in more ways than I could have ever imagined. For me, this is a ride to honor both those who have passed and those who continue to live.
