Twenty-nine students from the University of Texas, including several from Houston, who are participating in the Texas 4000 bike ride to support the fight against cancer, visited Houston City Hall on Tuesday.

Council Member Dave Martin recognized the students for their “courageous endeavor”. Listen (12:23)

“They are traveling on bike through Houston to Little Rock to St. Louis to Chicago to Minneapolis through Canada and then on their way to Anchorage, Alaska,” Martin explained. “Forty-seven hundred miles!”

Martin said that all students ride for a variety of different “touching and personal reasons, but all in support of raising awareness and money for cancer research”. Martin and Mayor Annise Parker presented a proclamation to the students.
