Why I Ride

I am riding for my best friend, Alex, who was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia when we were 16 years old. Alex underwent years of chemotherapy, allergic reactions, steroid withdrawal and a double hip replacement all before the age of 20 and she is still dealing with the aftereffects to this day. I am very proud to say she is thriving at Villanova studying to become a pediatric oncology nurse. Throughout it all she has been the bravest and strongest person I know. As well as her parents, Bill and Ann, who have sacrificed so much to get her through treatment and beyond. I have known the Malone family since I was nine years old when Mrs. Malone became my basketball coach for the next five years and Alex became my classmate, teammate and closest friend. It really has been an honor to know the Malone family and their kindness and generosity.
It is because of Alex that I have firsthand seen the toll that cancer takes on its victims and their friends and family. If you have anyone in your life that you would like me to ride for please share and I will proudly take their story to Alaska with me.
