About: Hey y'all- I'm Catherine Butschi or really any form of "Cat, Cathy, Kitty Cat, or Butschi". I am a graduate student with a degree in accounting! On any day, you can find me reading, spending quality time with family or friends, or traveling. I love meeting new people and learning their stories. I am beyond excited for my upcoming journey and the people I will be able to experience 4,500 miles with.

Why I Ride

I am riding for three people- my grandfather and two grandmothers. When I was three years old, one of my grandmothers passed away from cancer. Although I never got to meet her, I have been told by many people how kind and compassionate she was. I did, however, build a strong relationship with my grandfather, Papa Tom. While growing up I learned a lot about the joy and sadness of life from him. I know he suffered a lot of pain after my grandmother’s death, but instead of being overcome with grief, he dedicated his energy to helping others, particularly those with cancer. Papa Tom would have been the first one to get on a bike and ride over 4000 miles across the country with a team to raise awareness for cancer and that is why I want to ride for him too. My other grandmother has been diagnosed with breast cancer and has been battling cancer for over 20 years. I want to ride for her because of her perseverance.

Lastly, I want to ride for other families who are experiencing or have experienced cancer. They have endured one of the scariest curve balls life can throw. I want to be a part of the solution that can give all families the peace of knowing they will never hear “cancer” as a diagnosis ever again.
