About:

Hey there!

I'm a Junior at UT at Austin majoring in Electrical and Computer Engineering. I was born in Baytown, Texas. My father was a plumber, electrician and country music singer who worked at the local power plant, now owned by Reliant Energy. My mother has worked at Robert E. Lee high school in Baytown as a Geography teacher. She was a real estate agent for some years before getting her Masters in Educational Psychology to now work as counselor at Goose Creek Memorial high school.

I have always known that I wanted to commit myself to helping further some great cause and I have certainly found that in Texas 4000 for Cancer. This organization has already changed my life in many ways by providing me with a group of individuals who understand their place in life and bring me up to do great things through everyday actions and our community service. We know that we're here for a reason and want to commit ourselves to changing the world.

No words can truly describe the feeling of supporting this great cause alongside people who also have dedicated themselves to the mission of Texas 4000. The pillars of Texas 4000 speak to this mission and show how we plan to fight this horrible disease. The three pillars of Texas 4000 are Hope, Knowledge and Charity. We share Hope by riding for all those affected by cancer. We share Knowledge by bringing life-saving cancer prevention information to communities along the way. We share Charity in leading the fight to end cancer by raising money for a cure.

Why I Ride

Every member of my team is dedicated to the Mission of Texas 4000 as most of us have been personally impacted by the effects of this horrible disease, including myself. I ride for my stepfather who suffered from a malignant melanoma tumor. I am blessed to still have him in my life and feel immeasurable remorse for those who have lost family members to cancer, like many of my teammates. He continues to be a true example of courage, strength and will power as he faces this disease. I am always humbled by the things that he and other cancer survivors have accomplished.

My goal is to raise $5,500 and I really need your help. No donation is too small! 94% of the money we raise goes to The M.D. Anderson Cancer Research Center, The UT Biomedical Engineering Department for Cancer and programs at LIVESTRONG like its Cancer Navigation Center (To provide assistance to those affected by cancer). The other 6% goes to the mission mentioned earlier of Hope, Knowledge and Charity. Texas 4000 is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization and all donations are 100% tax deductible! Also, please support my mission of fighting cancer by sharing this story with anyone that you know as well as providing me with contact information on those who can contribute.

There are 3 ways to support my mission.

3. In person. I would love to meet with you to tell you more and hear your stories.

This disease impacts many people and I strongly encourage you to call, mail, email or meet with me so that I can understand how your life has been impacted by this disease so that I can ride for the affected person. I am unequivocally grateful for all the love and support shown to me in my fight against cancer. I am honored to be part of this organization and will do everything in my power to fulfill my Texas 4000 mission.

With emphatic gratitude and sincerity,

Austin Shaver
