AUSTIN (KXAN) — University of Texas students are gearing up for a 4,000-mile journey.

The Texas 4000 is a team of cyclists that will pedal their way from Austin to Anchorage, Alaska. This is the largest charity ride which benefits cancer research and services.

There will be a send-off Friday afternoon at the LBJ Fountain on campus.

Members of the Austin community are invited to join the Day Zero send-off on May 30 at 1 p.m.

Luci Baines Johnson and Sen. Kirk Watson will address the riders and their friends and family members at the LBJ Fountain before the team departs on their bicycles for Cedar Park.
