Texas 4000 heading to area
The Texas 4000 plans to roll through Clovis Thursday as part of its 70-day bicycle tour to Alaska to benefit cancer research.
The riders, made up of 67 undergraduate and graduate students from the University of Texas, travel more than 4,000 miles from Austin to Anchorage. During the journey, they visit with people affected by cancer and make educational presentations about cancer prevention and early detection.
The team is splitting up into three units. The yclers coming through Clovis will be on the Sierra Route, which will go through Albuquerque, San Francisco and Seattle. The groups will reunite in Canada and ride the final 10 days together.
More than 600 students have ridden in the event, and have raised more than $7 million for cancer research since 2003.
