Biography
“Life attracts life.”
I grew up in a small, Texas Panhandle town called Canyon. I felt like I was bursting at the seams the entire time I was growing up, always looking for something more. Thanks to an amazing mother and a bit of a free-spirit, I was able to accomplish and experience so much more in my life than I thought possible. I made the most of my years in school learning, being involved in EVERYTHING (a small town will do that to you), and fully experiencing everything life had to offer.
Starting my senior year in high school, I began spending my summers in the mountains of New Mexico working at a high adventure Christian youth camp. From wrestling a donkey to instructing mountain biking and rappelling to squeeging sewage to worshipping God under the most perfect lightning storms, my experience at camp taught me how to love, adventure, and dance. (Seriously... My dancing improved ten-fold...)
I’m currently a 3rd year Advertising student who never thought she could love this city and campus as much as she does. I also never thought I could be so thankful and feel this much gratitude for the perfect timing that has led me to where I am today.
I believe that living life is more important than keeping the schedule we have for it, and after living 20 years that way, I can honestly say I have no regrets.
And I love wolves and mixed CDs. A lot.
Personal Statement
“Too many stories go untold.”
Cancer is one of my worst nightmares. It scares me. All the word associations I have for cancer are weak, fragile, hopeless, and never-ending.
But those couldn’t be more wrong.
Cancer is one of those things that seems too overwhelming at face value, and therefore is that much easier to ignore or downplay. Humans have a tendency to get offended when we don’t understand something, so we shut it out. And that’s the most dangerous play by this beast called cancer. Every single person who fights cancer is strong and passionate, they have a greater appreciation of life than others “living” it, and their sense of hope is consuming. Every single fighter has a story that deserves to be told.
I ride for the fighters. I ride for their stories.
