Biography

I was born in Dallas, Texas, raised in Richardson for 13 years, moved to my current home in Plano, Texas. I'm studying Kinesiology at UT Austin, graduating Fall 2010. I'm not exactly sure what I'll be doing after I graduate. Perhaps, I'll pursue a graduate degree of some sorts. Whatever I end up doing, I know it'll be something that I love doing.

I love many different types of music. At any given time of day, I have a song stuck in my head. I played cello in high school, have been playing guitar for years, and working on others. Since coming to UT, I’ve acquired a liking to different types of dancing. I also love getting to learn about different types of cultures - their languages, foods, beliefs, lifestyles. I went to China in Summer 2009 for a cultural exchange program. Through it, I was given opportunities to interact with people from many nations and learned how to love different people. We were created in a culturally diverse world. I'm all for it.

I really enjoy the outdoors. I grew up playing soccer, but I also really like playing volleyball, football, ultimate frisbee, and many others. I'm up for learning new sports and games when I have the chance.

Personal Statement

I think that cancer, as deadly and powerful as it is, is a terribly wonderful thing. It makes people wonder in countless ways. It’s infamous for its effect on the human population, and even more for being a disease that doctors can’t yet find a cure... despite the effort that is put into research.

But that’s also what’s wonderful about cancer. I am in awe of how greatly people, diagnosed or not, are affected by it. I hear and read stories of cancer survivors and their fight for freedom from disease. I hear and read stories of how strong the will of people becomes while suffering from cancer. And then there's the amount that people support the research and endless testing for the cure. Cancer is the sort of thing that brings people together. It's not a one-two knockout; it’s something that people give their lives up for to find a cure. I’d really like to be a part of that fight in any way I can. And by hope, knowledge and awareness, Texas 4000 seeks to do that.
